Portarlington    5.07  (22)
Clonad / Trumera     4.10  (22)

Our U13 Hurlers travelled to Clonad GAA for their fourth Hurling game.

Clonad Trumera started the first half with a powerful and admirable dominance over Port, and opened the scoreboard almost immediately, with a long high strike from near midfield. Port were taken aback by the sheer force and skill of the constant attacks on their back and forward lines. Clonad /Trumera moved swiftly and accurately about the field and were rewarded with four goals within a ten minute period. Port worked the sliotar well and created a few chances but Clonad / Trumera held fast in their defensive lines. The battles for possession on the field were tough and physical, our boys fought well but failed to get a score on target as the first half finished, bringing a half time score of Port 0.00, Clonad / Trumera 4.05 (17).

Port gathered themselves at the half time break, had a drink, and made a determined plan for the second half. What was to come form these lads was unbelievable. They skipped 2nd, 3rd & 4th gear and moved straight into 5th. Port launched an attack on Clonad/ Trumera that even lifted the spirits of their loyal supporters who were shouting them on from the sideline. Two early points and then two more, followed by three goals. At fourteen minutes into the second half Port had gained 3.04(13) and were now trailing by 4 points, They were after growing about six inches taller and were looking like Setanta himself was playing with them on the field. They could do no wrong. Clonad/ Trumera attempted to slow them down with another two points, but Port answered with two more goals and the crowd went ecstatic. Every play was now fiercely contested, with neither team willing to give an inch to their opponents, In the closing minutes of the game, and the score deadlocked at twenty-two points each, both teams pushed for a final winning score, the coaches egged them on, the parents held their breath, all in anticipation of the outcome. However a deserving draw after a such an spirited comeback was very acceptable. The full time score coming in at Port 5.07 (22), Clonad / Trumera 4.10 (22).
This was by far, the best second half a of hurling match, these lads have ever been in. As the boys shook hands it was clear that they had left everything they had on the pitch.
