On Sunday morning at McCann Park, Portarlington's U15 hurlers faced Colt Shanhoe in a fiercely contested semi-final, coming out victorious with a hard-earned 4-point win. Portarlington dominated the first half, heading into the break leading 2-06 to 0-06.
In the second half, Colt Shanhoe had the wind at their backs and used several frees to narrow the gap to just 2 points. However, crucial late scores, including a brilliant long-range effort from Cillin Hoey, extended Portarlington's lead to 4 points.
It was an outstanding team effort from the Port lads, who gave their all and thoroughly deserved the win. Goalkeeper Dylan Loftus had an impressive game, conceding just one goal while consistently finding his teammates with accurate puck outs.
The defence was rock-solid, especially in the second half, with Carroll, Maher, and Mullen standing firm in the full-back line. The half-back line of Murphy, Emerson, and Connolly Horan excelled under pressure, clearing vital ball when needed. Midfielders Hayes and Yarrow battled relentlessly, winning key possessions throughout.
Cillin Hoey was in superb form, contributing both in scoring and defence at crucial moments. Up front, McGurrell and Petriw worked tirelessly, while Kiernan, Connolly, and Walsh also added to the scoreboard.
In the end, Portarlington emerged victorious with a scoreline of 4-08 to 1-14, advancing to the final where they will face St. Paul’s on October 5th.
