In what has been described around the town today as one of the most memorable and poignant events in many years in the club, Portarlington GAA held a walk this morning in solidarity with the Darkness into light movement.

Port people from 8 to 80 began gathering at the club at 3:30 am to set off on a 5km walk in aid of Pieta House that took them out the Canal Rd. to Blackhall bridge, on through Deerpark, returning to the club via Corrig.

Our recently established Health & Wellbeing committee led by Darren Geoghegan, only began organising the event less than two weeks ago and rightly deserve the credit they have received for the incredible job they did in preparing the club grounds and the 5km route for the estimated 500 plus participants.

A big word of thanks to everyone who took part, donated, and gave their time to help with stewarding and refreshments.

Thanks also to our local Fire Brigade & Gardaí who made sure the route was safe for all of the walkers.

Portarlington GAA club is committed to the health & wellbeing of all our players, members & supporters and want to remind everyone that our door is always open if you need us.
